Personal Brand
As part of the Professional Development in Graphic Design course I took in 2021, the final project was to create our own personal branding to be used across social media, print materials and a design cv. I already had a personal brand but used this opportunity to improve a few things.
Text Based Logo
Before this rebrand, I had mostly gone with uppercase lettering, so I wanted to try something that looked softer. As the project began, I was using a lot of uppercase examples, but as it developed, it changed, and I’m so glad it did.
To create this text logo, I combined the Filson Pro Medium font with the Raleway Medium font. I recreated the Raleway W as there wasn’t a font-weight that matched that of Filson Pro. I also tried swapping out some of the other letters, but it was really only the W that needed replacing.
Icon Design
The icon design for this logo is based on the simple shapes in the W of the text logo. I experimented with adding geometric and organic shapes behind the cross but found it looked too over complicated. So the icon can be used on its own and as a negative section within a coloured circle in a favicon, for example.

Pattern & Colour
I LOVE colour, so choosing just a small selection of colours was difficult. After the Baugasm project, I was loving the purple and orange. For me, this final colour palette represents the things I love, creativity (purple), warmth and optimism (oranges), calm, travel, and the ocean (blues).
I like geometric simple patterns, but I came across this worm-like softer pattern on Envato Elements and loved it. I think the more rounded shapes work as a nice contrast against the logo icon.

Social Media Graphics
I have created some example Instagram posts in the new colours and branding and a cover image for Facebook. I have also created an orange version of the cover image for when I fancy a change. The profile image is a graphic created using Procreate, done by tracing over a photograph of me, placed on top of a brand colour.
CV Design
Although I plan to continue doing freelance work for agencies and grow a design business, I created a CV for the purpose of this project. I’m happy with how it has turned out. I created a cover page, an informational page and some portfolio pages showcasing some of my best and most recent work. These can be swapped in and out depending on any design job I might go for.
Website Refresh
I recently moved my website over from WordPress. Although I have a lot of experience in WordPress and love it, I wanted a more stress-free all-in-one option that I didn’t have to worry about updates and security. So I have recreated my website in Squarespace and have implemented this new branding across the website. I’m really pleased with how it’s looking so far, and I look forward to improving and expanding it over time.
