Why Squarespace?
You might wonder why I chose Squarespace to design websites rather than the industry standard and design agency's favourite “WordPress”.
There are many reasons why I choose Squarespace over WordPress, but here’s a few:
-
Squarespace is an all-in-one platform. Your domain, hosting, SSL and everything you need for your website can be kept all in one place. Unlike WordPress, you don’t need lots of plugins to make it look good and function well.
-
Besides keeping your copy and blog up-to-date, Squarespace requires minimal maintenance. Remember those pesky plugins I mentioned WordPress uses? Well, they need updating regularly, and your website can break if you don’t keep on top of it. There are no such worries with Squarespace.
-
Squarespace is easy to use and update. If you want to change your colour scheme, replace your logo or add blog content, it’s simple to do.
I love Squarespace, but it’s not the right solution for everybody. If you’re only selling products or have a large online shop, this is not the platform for you. If you want your site to have custom, complex functionality or need complete control over the design to create exactly the vision in your mind, then it's not for you.
Squarespace has limitations, which I embrace; designing with constraints encourages simple, minimal designs that work. So, if you’re looking for a simple portfolio site to showcase your work, Squarespace is for you!
Why Hire a Squarespace Designer?
Steph, you’ve told me this Squarespace platform is easy to use. Why can’t I do it myself? Well, you absolutely can do it yourself. But may I remind you of some of the reasons you may have scrolled this far on the page:
You’re not a confident designer - Despite Squarespace’s best efforts to ensure no one can make an ugly website, it’s still possible. I’ve seen some! I have years of web and graphic design experience. By working with me, your site is guaranteed to look great!
You’re time-poor - Even though the system is easy to grasp, it still takes time to get the hang of it. And if you're not a pro at website building, you might end up wasting hours and still not achieving a professional-looking website. I can whip up a well-designed website for you in two weeks!

Yes! I will transfer full ownership of the website over to you. Once you have become acquainted with your website and the goings-on behind the scenes, if you have any questions or need me to run through anything with you, I will be available to support you via email for one month after the launch. I would also happily jump on a video call with you if needed.
-
Yes. This may be something you could do yourself. If all you need is an extra service page that looks exactly like the others I have created, I can explain how to duplicate a page, and then you can change the text accordingly. If you want me to do this, an additional standard page costs £50.
-
I don’t provide keyword research. However, I build your website with SEO in mind, optimising for different screen sizes, adding page metadata, and ensuring best practices for headings and URLs are followed. Your Squarespace subscription includes an SSL certificate, which has the security side of SEO covered. If you need more help, I can advise where I can, but it might be worth working with a specialist if you need to dive deeper.
-
Once we have agreed on a start date, a 50% deposit is required before work begins. The remaining 50% will be due once the website is complete before the project handover.
-
If you don't have anything in place regarding logo design, colour palette, etc yet. I can use my best judgement on what fonts and colours should be used throughout the website, and the logo will be your name in text form rather than a custom logo. There will be no revisions included for this styling.
If you would like more say in the branding of your website and don’t have this already, I offer a logo design and branding service where I create a custom logo and pull together appropriate font choices and a colour palette which can be used in your business going forward. Let me know if you would like to include this alongside your website project.
-
Text, images and branding. If you don’t have any of these, no worries. Send me an email, and we can discuss the options.
I will set up an organised shared Google Drive to store it all.
-
All websites require a cookie and privacy policy page. It’s also advised to include a terms of use page as well. As these are legal documents, I cannot provide them for you, and it’s up to you as the website owner to ensure your website complies with the laws in your country. I’m happy to add these pages to your website at no additional cost, as they don’t require designing.
-
Yes! I don’t work on websites in languages other than English, but I’m happy to work with international clients. I will still charge in GBP; payment details will be included at the bottom of my invoice. Previous international clients I have worked with used Transfer Wise to send AUD to my GBP account. Please consider any difference in time zones and allow for that when sending communications.
